Senior Database Engineer / Reliability Engineer embedded in a sprint-based DBA squad, helping evolve the function from traditional DBA work into a reliability-first, self-service–oriented database platform. This role emphasizes recoverability, lifecycle management, and modeling best practices, not custodial ticket work.
Database Administration / Engineering
MySQL & Postgres experts with strong cloud experience to support the automation and execution of lifecycle management activities (patching, upgrades, decommissioning, etc.)
What they’ll do
Own database reliability outcomes: availability, performance, recoverability
Design and operationalize data-loss recovery procedures (restore workflows, validation, execution plans)
Lead DB fleet lifecycle management (versions, patching, sizing, standards)
Improve alerting, observability, incident response, and RCA
Implement secure-by-default DB patterns (least privilege, encryption, auditability)
Build self-service database capabilities to reduce support burden
Pair daily with internal DBAs to model DBRE practices (observational learning)
Must-have Skills:
10+ years in DBA / DBRE roles
Deep hands-on experience with AWS RDS / Aurora
Strong Postgres and/or MySQL expertise
Proven experience executing restores and recovery under pressure
Comfortable working in agile teams (standups, sprints, shared backlog)
Automation-first mindset
Nice-to-have:
Kubernetes/EKS familiarity
Compliance-heavy environments
Cost-aware DB sizing patterns
