Role Overview

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading and growing a high-performing, engaged engineering team that gives BotCity the people foundation to scale reliably. This person will manage the Platform Engineering team, overseeing people processes and making technical decisions. This role is built for someone with a strong technical background and a methodical, curious mindset, who combines strong technical judgement with pragmatic execution and the ability to lead a talented engineering team. This role will report to the CTO.

 
Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and develop a high-performing, globally distributed engineering team, including career paths and performance reviews.
  • Run a consistent cadence of 1:1s, feedback sessions that develop engineers and surface issues early.
  • Design and evolve team structure as the organization scales.
  • Partner with Product and peer Engineering leads to translate business priorities into team plans, without owning day-to-day technical architecture.
  • Define and drive the "Brilliant Basics" roadmap: reliability, observability, security, CI/CD, and engineering practices that scale across squads.
  • Own incident management, on-call rotation, and SLOs to ensure platform reliability for ICP (ideal customer profile) enterprise customers.
  • Balance hands-on technical involvement with delegation, stepping into architecture or code-level discussions when needed.
Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) with software engineering, including (2+ years) as an Engineering
  • Manager leading a team of 6+ engineers.
  • Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineers, including promoting ICs into senior/lead roles.
  • Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business goals into team plans and priorities.
  • Proven track record building and scaling backend systems (Java) in B2B SaaS.
  • Experience establishing or maturing engineering practices (SDLC, code review, testing, incident response) in an early or growth-stage company.
  • Proficiency with Git, CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions), cloud providers (AWS/Azure), and monitoring/observability tools.
  • Experience working with MS Office/Excel, Google Suite, Notion.
  • Takes ownership of outcomes and leads by example, articulating a strategic technical vision with collaborative humility.
  • Sets priorities with objectivity and consistently upholds high standards in decision quality to deliver results.
  • Portuguese - Fluent.
  • English - Fluent.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support events and meet the team.
  • Prior experience in an early-stage, high-growth, and fast-paced startup environment. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or postgraduate studies in technology management/leadership.
  • Experience designing org structures (pods/squads) for a scaling engineering organization.
  • Experience in AI/LLM-based products, agent orchestration, or automation/RPA platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools.
